Michael Dapper was a Polaris employee when a locked war room in corporate headquarters hosted discussions that led to the company entering the motorcycle business. Every victory owner should have a copy of this book.. It shows how it all got started and what when into a great designed american made motorcycle..

Very interesting

Well it's a great book, I've read a friends copy before, but hey I haven't received mine yet...Hopefully it'll be here soon, I am in Australia which could account for the delay.Victory is a magnificent bike!

If you own a Victory you should get this book just to see how far they have come in the last almost 20 years. Harleys suck!

Book is great but definitely not worth the money

The authors' story of how Polaris created Victory Motorcycles is truly an inspirational new product development journey. A visionary business plan, coupled with a highly motivated, passionate, and skilled team gave us an outstanding American motorcycle alternative. I hope the authors have an updated edition planned. Victory has come a long way since the first book was released. It would be great to read about Victory's progress in recent years.

I am a fan of the owners workshop manuals. The book is a wonderful reference into the the history and specifications of the international space station. In my opinion it is a great book, but will need to be supplemented as it is pretty broad and only meant to get you the basics

It was the perfect book for my 13 year old grandson.

Haynes manuals are usually filled with assembly and repair pictures. That's what I wanted from this book. Here's a drawing of the S0 truss, here are where the parts that live on it are attached. Here's how it is installed. This is just a short book on the ISS no better or worse than any other. The drawing on the cover is the best one you'll get.

His mother remarries a Hollywood executive. Their new home is in Beverly Hills,California. Aaron turns into adiscipline problem. His mother sends him to a military school in Canada. The name of this academy is Robert Land Academy. At this academy he comes under the influence of Colonel Bowman. Colonel Bowman teaches him the superior training and abilities of the Israeli Defense Forces(IDF). Aaron makesthe decision to move to Israel and become a citizen. He promptly joins the Israeli Defense Forces(IDF). After gaining combat experience and living on a kibbutz he decides to try out for the Israeli Special Forces. He is selected as a member of Sayeret Duvdevan. This is the Israeli equivelent of theNavy Seals and Green Berets. This turns out to be an experience. They conduct battles with Hamas and do operations against money raisers and financierswho fund the operations of terrorist organizations. They are able to capture a prominent Hamas member named Abu Jihad. Aaron finally reaches the pointwhere he can retire. Aaron moves back to California and opens his own security firm named IMS. This is a very good book. You should read this.

I was very pleasantly surprised. The book is divided (in my mind) into 4 sections. The first is how he wound up in the Israeli Army. I thought his story rang true. The second part was his training for the Elite Unit and how he made sure he got there. Again -- i thought told brilliantly without arrogance and with much introspection. The fourth part was his actual service. The fourth part is post army. He explains in vivid detail the rigors of the training and the challenges a soldier faces -- both physically and psychologically. This wasnt Green Beret stuff....he talks about the dangers the soldiers face and the loneliness of being in such a unit. Really great.

When I came to the question of how many stars, I hit the 5 stars withouth even thinking about it! I didn't have too. I read the entire 274 page book in 2 days! Written in a way to be easily read and understood, I couldn't put it down. The glimphs into the authors childhood, military school in Canada, and the incredible training he endured, that in my experience of 30 years of reading of military history to include the SAS, SEAL's, Green Beret, and others, the Israeli special forces I believe go thru worse, and endure more than any other! (For one reason, some their treatment in special forces training would be illegal)!They have to, due to being on a war footing at all times. Then, to the missions in "enemy territory," to snatch suspected terrorists, makes for incredible suspense! I would highly recommend this book to anyone, as a must read!

At times it seems the author reveals too much about operations of Israeli special forces and CT units, but in the end, not really. Quickly, it can be seen why the Israelis are the best fighting force in the world.The most interesting part of the book is at the very end when the author talks about his current career. It's amazing to see that even after 9/11, we are still reactive, instead of proactive, when it comes to security. What is really frightening, especially to anyone connected with our school systems no matter what the grade or year, is the total lack of preparedness and training which exists to deal with "school shooters." The fanatical opposition, mostly by teacher unions and administrators, to the presence of properly trained, and armed, security personnel in schools and the reliance on improperly trained, and remote, public safety forces should give pause to anyone who attends a school in this country or who sends a family member off to school.

This is a superior book written by a semi silver spoon Beverly Hills kid who dreams of making a difference and honoring his Jewish roots by going to Israel to participate in the elite special forces in what stands today as any country's most advanced and successful anti-terrorism elite special forces with methods and practices that if applied to the United States special forces would enhance our security abroad and right here at home.A compelling story of a young kid who has little idea of what he is about to get himself into, but ending up with a life that most would consider both very fulfilling and so very honorable by all defense and military buffs! A book that is hard to stop listening to and each time you do break, you look forward to the next time you will get to listen to more.I recommend this book highly for all readers who have an interest, however, be advised that as with most military books, at times there is harsh language so definitely PG-13+ rating. Not overly violent but very candid about the difficulties in the geopolitics and the physical and mental strain one undergoes when training for special forces, much like our Seal teams or England's MI6. A book I am happy to have in my library and to have experienced! Get this book!

I did not expect to enjoy this book, but I did and I would highly recommend it. I wish more designers and engineers read it, even if I don't always agree 100% with Norman.Seller was great- product came on time/early and in perfect shape

An interesting read. Ranks in this order:(1) Design of Everyday Things(2) Emotional Design(distant 3rd) Design of Future ThingsIt wasn't "bad" it simply wasn't as interesting as the others. Whereas at the end of (1) and (2) I felt enlightened - that Norman was breaking new ground. At the end of Future Things I felt he had spent much of the time repeating himself, that the book could have been half the length.Good book, but I would skip.

Slightly different from his other books, this seems more a collection of musings about automation and human-machine interaction. Worth a read but perhaps a little more shallow than his other work.

Mixed with some really good ideas is mostly just pontification and droll explanation of things that already are.Many of the conclusions in this book can be reached much sooner on the reader's own without the lengthy writer's passages that seem to only extend the book's length rather than open the reader's mind. Yes, machines now only signal us, not communicate with us, when the wash's cycle has ended or the microwave's 2 minutes are up, but then, what else do we need? I don't want my vacuum reminding me it's vacuuming or when it's finished. That's why it's automatic.

Norman's book Design of Everyday Things had a profound effect both on the way I perceive the world and how I design. I have bought every consumer book he has written since then, and have always come away disappointed.I am giving this book only 3 stars because I felt it became repetitive after a while, having covered the points adequately in the first half of the book. Not up to the quality I expect of Norman.

This book was very interesting, as all of Don Norman's books are. In this book he goes into detail about how future designers will need to design future devices, how they can make them more useful and more human. He talks a lot about how what sounds like seemingly 'no-brainer' new features (radar-based minimum distance following cruise control) can actually cause problems (speeding up when you pull off the road, slowing down when you merge into traffic.) He gives suggestions to designers on how to avoid these types of issues and how to design things that are truly useful for humans.I thought it was a fascinating book and I learned a lot about design from it. He goes over the problems that making things too smart can cause and notes that when designing new devices the human interaction is the critical problem. A lot of future design will have to take into account how best to control human reactions in addition to providing the best features. Our devices are sometimes too smart (but not smart enough) and need to be designed to help humans in different ways than is first obvious.A fascinating description of what can go wrong and how to design around it using a system view.

Many of us live unaware of the flagrant gifts a civilized society extends to each one of us and how the pillars of our peaceful communities are taken for granted. Michael Scott Moore’s book, “The Desert and the Sea” will make you wake-up from your western world slumber.I just finished reading “The Desert and the Sea”. The cliche phrase, “I couldn’t put this book down” is true! The story moves along brilliantly; the author weaves the account of his captivity with cultural history, personal past mis-giving’s and captors’ odd personalists. To be perfectly honest, I did put the book down once or twice because I found myself absorbing the author’s pain and anxiety. Moore’s book was written so well, it touched my psyche deeply. His unjust imprisonment was wrong on so many levels and stomach turning. But I stepped away from the book to mostly reflect on the lethal combination of how poverty, lack of education, political chaos, and religious zeal can turn humans toward ugliness, entropy and insanity. The book shows us that Ideas are indeed powerful; both positive and destructive.The intensity of Moore's story lies in its realness – “This isn’t fiction,” I had to keep reminding myself as I read. As an American citizen, I noted and often appreciated the author’s non-American (European) view on various political and social issues – not completely void of bias. The historical content he provided throughout the book about Somalia, pirating and the Muslim religion was greatly appreciated. And how he noted and quoted other authors who wrote about these subjects so the reader could go beyond the book and learn more. Mr. Moore should be honored as a true survivor. But most importantly, I thank him for sharing his story with those who live in simple ignorance to the favors of a civilized society. Mr. Moore's accounts of the dark and sinister Somalia pirate trade only shines a bright light on the importance of education, a free economy, democracy, and religious freedom.

Clearly the author had no business going into Somalia just to get a story of some sort. I felt little pity for him when he gets kidnapped. HIs account of the experience is not very satisfying, and I am not sure why. I felt for starters the book is too long, many of the individual aspects of his captivity, dreadful though they were were also redundant. I found my self skimming a lot. I did learn some things like today the kidnappers in Somalia can rather easily via cellphone talk to the victim's family anywhere in the world. Who would have thought. I think my main complaint about the book is its shallowness. It reads more like a newspaper accounting of the facts rather than a non fiction book. One thing though , the reader will probably not want to go to Somalia any time soon.

What a fascinating read. Even if this book were a novel instead of a true story, it would still be a riveting page-turner.I could not put this book down. It is an adventure from the first page. It describes Michael's predicament, the result of one fatal mistake any of us could make, in excruciating detail. From disgusting pirates to false hope to "man's inhumanity to man" to finding beauty in the cruelest of conditions, it carries the reader from despair to hope, and back to despair againPhilosophy, religion, colonialism, slavery, economics, politics, love, hate and the entire human condition show up.Thank you Michael for having the courage to both stay alive (I probably would have taken a few of them out and killed myself), and share this with the world. You are a true survivor and a gifted writer.

The author is frustrating. He embarks on a journalistic fact-finding trip to a very dangerous area of Somalia with what seems to me very little planning. Maybe he did the best he could considering the rampant violence in the area of Somalia that he went to visit, but I think he was naive to put himself into such unpredictable circumstances. By page 41, of the approximately 450 pages, he became a captive of the pirates! Obviously things became ugly very early on his trip.I lost empathy for the author, not because he was stupid, as he is obviously a very intelligent man, but due to his ignorance of venturing into an area that he had no “on the ground experience” in such a lawless area. I guess he wouldn’t have had much to write about if he was not held captive. Maybe doing something exceptionally daring is what it takes for a journalist to “earn his chops” as opposed to writing a previous book on surfing.

I am 88% of the way through according to my Kindle and I would say this was truly a great book. I had to look hard for a place to stop reading for the day, so that's my definition of a good book. His time in captivity and his willingness to pursue every avenue towards gaining his freedom is inspirational and the way that he wove it in with his personal life experiences made the book feel very real and very personal. I felt like I knew Michael better than the pirates did, and, of course with the language barrier, that is certainly true, but it lent a certain feeling of empathy or "relatable-ness" towards the author and the despicable situation he was in and the guilt around the hardships that he put upon his family. This book would make a GREAT movie, if it hasn't been thought of already?

This is one of the best books I've ever read, no question. Not only because of the narrative, but because of the author's profound insights into his own mind as he struggles to survive both physically and emotionally. And also because of the vivid portrayal of other people in the book and the ways they found to communicate across diverse languages.
