This updated version gives a lot more information about the newest smart phones, tablets, and applications available now. Even though I have used a desktop computer for years, I took the time to read through this section from the very beginning, and learned quite a bit, especially about what to look and ask for when purchasing a new computer. The author writes very simply and clearly about each step to using electronic devices, and explains what the many everyday abbreviations stand for. I first borrowed this book from the library, and was so impressed with it that I purchased an updated copy for myself. I feel it is well worth the price for anyone who is new to computers, smart phones or tablets, or simply wants to better understand how they function.

This book explains everything in the tech world simply, easily, and it's not too fat with good size print and wide margins. I got this for my mom, but I've found it useful as well. It explains everything with the "for dummies" detail of clarity without calling you a dummy :)Useful for learning how to use your computer, as well as the various applications, and programs. It talks about the security, service providers, Mac vs. PCs, the internet, email, social media, troubleshooting, Tablets vs. smart phones vs. computers, hardware, software, and even shopping online. It covers just about EVERYTHING. I recommend reading the whole thing, but it can be used as a simple reference; still, get familiar with the book because, especially for very new beginners, you may not know where to find the answers you want if you aren't familiar with all the parts.

Absolutely clear in her explanations. Solid recommendation from a semi-geek (I know enough to get into PC Purgatory but not enough to find my way out!) She answers all the questions I am to embarrassed to ask about since I think I should know the answers.

A great book not just for a novice, as the author modestly claims, but for anyone at any age who has a modest or even a good functionl knowledge of working with electronic devices like desktops, laptops, smart phones and tablets. The scope of the book is exceptionally comprehensive. The book deals with all devices in major use and explains them in a great lively style. My only suggestion is to reduce some small talk and focus on the useful stuff. But that may reduce the book's readability. A great book to have for all who use modern electronic computing devices but have no time and do not need to master all the secrets of each device. A book with great practical utility.

Wow! THE perfect companion book to Marie Clapsaddle's "Become A Tech-Smart Senior." For a friend or family member of any age who was leery about getting on line, I'd team up Marie's book (which I just purchased/read), this terrific tome plus a tablet - grand slam of introducing basic benefits, followed by core features & how-tos (written in remarkably clear, illuminating, non-scary language - bravo, Abby!) with the simplest-to-master hardware (FYI - Abby's book covers a wide range of devices). Gotta get a copy of this book for our local senior residence!

When looking for instruction on how to scan, download, save, store and retrieve it was a challenge. Impatient I ordered another book to get the answers. More concise directions would have been nice. Overall the book was helpful but lacked direct 1-2-3 directions.

Have paged through, and assured myself that the content will be useful to me many times. It's the perfect book for an elderly female of average intelligence and small knowledge of modern technology. I'm glad I got it.

how to use this computer better. Before I was going over to the Micro Center (Computer Repair Place) to find out what I had did wrong. Each visit cost me near $100.00. Now I will be able to look up some things on my own. I was jilted out of $400.00 two years ago, because some Internet scam person pretended to be the Computer Tech and messed up my computer over the phone. I have learned from this. I will study these book until I get a better view of my computer. Thanks

Love this book, but the letter size is a bit small, especially under images, for reading. I would give 5 stars if the letter size would have been bigger.

very overpriced & some info is out-of-date

I find this to be a very thorough book on using silver gelatin/liquid emulsions. It covers everything from coating papers, fabrics, or other materials for photo printing, as well as making glass negatives. There is also info on various toning methods, a troubleshooting section, and a formulary with recipes for everything from developers, fixers, stop baths, and toners. I really can't say enough good things about this book. The paper is nice and thick, so it's a joy to color on. I use artist quality wax colored pencils, and they did great on the paper. When you open the book, you'll see the left page has a stamp with a little write up about what your coloring, and the page to color is on the right. It's an ingenious idea, it really draws you into coloring London. For instance " Sherlock Holmes Museum, London" Tour the house of the famed fictional detective who introduced so many to the world of mysteries" or "London Eye, London: This Ferris wheel opened in 1999 to commemorate the millennium. Originally, it was to be in operation for only 5 years. It is still in operation today and has become a London landmark". The book features well known landmarks, as well as the simplier things like fish and chips. gardens, a beef eater, tea set, and many many more. If you love London, you'll love this book. I loved reading the stamp, while coloring. Personally, I really enjoy all the pages, and I can't give it enough stars.

These are lovely designs, and each page takes me back to when I visited London. There is a little "blurb" about the location in the picture on the back of each. Heavy paper (good for markers) and non-perforated.

Love this book, all pictures to color no just bare sketches which are impossible to color. Page are one sided a small explanation of page on back one each picture. Page es are good paper, don't know how to grade it but I love, buy it, you will have so much to color.

Nice thick book. Lots of nice images for adult coloring. Many images can be considered for children, simple, not too detailed. Still very nice selection.

I bought this because I recently went to London and fell in love with the city. These pictures bring up all the wonderful memories I have from my trip. It's like re-living it. So many different scenes and not one repeat of the same picture.

It's like keeping a diary of events when traveling to London. Paper quality is excellent, printed on one side of the paper the opposite side gives you an idea,explanation where the illustration from. As a book required for school, we used this as a family read-aloud. I had never heard of it before and didn't know what to expect. We LOVED it. My 11-year old daughter says, "It's very suspenseful and it's awesome!" My 9-year old son says, "It's set in World War 2 and it's an amazing book! You'll want to read it in one sitting. It's long but it's good."There was so much to like about the struggles and triumphs of this family during the war, and many heroic characteristics to admire. We learned about Holland, the windmills, the dikes, the culture, and the desperate cost that war can inflict. But finally the book is full of hope and love and family and faith. We didn't want it to end.

I owned a copy of this book when I was growing up. That copy is no longer with me, but the memories of this story have followed me through my adult life. There is much to learn about the bravery of the Dutch Resistance, the hardships of war, life in Holland as a windmill family, and the bare survival of wartime deprivations. However, there is also much to learn about the values of loyalty, true belief in right vs wrong, and the inner fortitude of humans who actively took a stand against the evil that surrounded them. It's a gem of a book.

My son loves historical fiction and this was a great read. Though my kids read, I still read aloud books like this to them, and this is the type everyone can enjoy---an adventure together. One note is that it is written from a Catholic perspective, so it includes a little bit of Catholicism that I had to explain as we read.

How do I begin to tell the story of what this wonderful book has meant to me? I first read Winged Watchman when I was 10 or 11 years old. I loved the story of Dirk Jan and Joris and the Verhagen's. I am of Dutch descent, something my Grandma Harding was very proud of. She was a Van Vorhees. I could identify with and understand the two boys and their strong feelings of patriotism. This is such an excellent book! I highly recommend it to you!

I like reading WW2 books, and this was one of the best. It takes place in Holland about 1940, Two boys named Dirk jan and Joris, help soldiers and dogs escape from cruel german hands. Joris's best friend's big brother is a landwatcher and is constantly causing trouble for everyone. The Verganhagens are always trying to help. Taking in refugees, soldiers, even Saint Nicholas!This book is a great history teacher, as it is exiting, funny, tense, all of the things that a good book is.

Learn their history as you learn our history. Be very happy that in such a short time our history is so much story and so much how did it go instead of a long time of the next time it happens

This book should be required reading for all children and adults alike. It not only is rich in culture but rich in Christ-like character development and provoking many thoughts and self reflection. We have enjoyed it as a family and the tribute to all mothers was humbling.

Wonderful book. My aunt is from Holland and told me the story, though fictional, really matches up with the stories she was told as a child by her relatives about their WWII experiences. As a home educating mom I like the way the book exposed the horror of the war without taking it too far for my 4th graders ears and heart, the characters love and joy and family connectedness keep you hopeful throughout the story. Highly recommend for read aloud to ages 8-12.

Definitely don't regret spending a dollar on this reference material .that being said all the information can be found on YouTube for free with video reference which can be easier for beginners like myself.I would love the author of this material to do some videos.

Despite the negatives written about the author, I found his frank discussions informative and helpful.

I would have loved to see 2 of these motors one set on a dyno and the other getting modified. The part being modified placed on the factory motor to see the increase each modification made in horsepower and tourque. Then when all together see the total numbers. However it was a good book with practical tips.

Not sure it is worth 99 cents. No basic principals are explained. Impact on fuel economy from the mods referenced is never mentioned.
