I was captivated by the story of Thomas Merton's life and his conversion to Catholicism. I'd heard of this book for quite some time, but never really knew what it was about other than someone's spiritual journey, and that's what this is. How a man with an unusual childhood (his mother died when he was young, and his artist father took him to France to live for quite some time, then he attended university in England, eventually returning to the US, where he studied at Columbia, aspiring to be a writer) suddenly in his early 20s develops a hunger for the spiritual life. And though he chose to become a Catholic monk, a path filled with obstacles, if he'd been born in another country, I could just as easily imagine him having become a Buddhist monk. This for me was at the heart of his story. He had a spiritual conversion, not just a Catholic or Christian one. His description of and longing for communion with God brought me closer to the same. His words transported and inspired me. He was an unusual man, destined to write about his experience when in fact, at least initially, all he wanted was the silence required by his order of Trappists. He went on to write many other books, some of which I have yet to read. Definitely recommend it, both for those who enjoy a good autobiography and those interested in the spiritual life.

I first learned of Thomas Merton from two of my favorite authors, Brennan Manning and Henri Nouwen. After reading so many works by these established authors, I began to be interested in learning more about those that influenced them. Merton is one of those writers who speaks to the mystical tradition and feels passionately about the Love of God. I can see why many of the "Love" authors refer to him in their writings. The seven story mountain is less a teaching book and more a record of events leading up to his joining a Trappist monastery. This book has value for someone who likes to read different stories of people coming to know the Lord Jesus. Someone who is just beginning their spiritual journey to know Christ, may see something of themselves in the life of Merton. His questions are some of the same questions many ask when beginning their spiritual quest. The book is painfully slow at times but can be read and then set aside for a while. I am not a fan of all the catholic theology but could look beyond the differing views to the heart of what is being said. If you are looking for some of the primary teachings of Merton, I wouldn't read this book. This book is more for those who wish to learn about his personal development. It is also more of a history book for the early half of the 20th century. There are interesting events taking place throughout the story that shed some light on the last 100 years. If you are looking for an introductory book to his teachings, I would suggest reading "No Man Is An Island."

I first read Thomas Merton’s books as a young Christian over 60 years ago when I was wondering which denominations were closely aligned with Christ’s own teachings. I did not feel drawn to the Catholic tradition as I encountered it in his writings, but recognized its authentic spirituality. It is ironic that near the end of my mortal span I now find a home within the Catholic tradition I rejected then. Re-reading this classic has been very stimulating, Why only three stars? I think it is a little too self-indulgent. And there are questions raised in the preface that I find disturbing. But it is a landmark classic and well worth reading!

I have read this book several times before, under the title of "Elected Silence" which was the first title given when it was published in Britain. I had an old copy and it made a deep impression on me. I have just gained a new copy of the book under the title of "The Seven Storey Mountain" I belong to the Thoms Merton International Chapter in Christchurch, New Zealand, and we have a number of books to lend out at our meetings. People, I meet, want to read this autobiography which still makes an impact. today, just as it did when it was first published.I recommend it to any one who is searching for belief in God because, for Merton, it was an intellectual conversion, and, for many, that makes more sense in today's complex society.

While not cast as such, this is an excellent source of information for one coming from any other object-oriented language (such as C# or Objective C). The authors are the ultimate source of knowledge about the product.I was struck by the quality of the examples that illustrate subtle points. Frequently, other writers create examples of the obvious use of an API or language feature, and leave the esoteric features as an exercise for the reader. It's also amazing how simple exercises at the beginning of the book reappear later as the base for suggested modifications that illustrate deeper parts of the API. This is SO real world --- many times you find yourself changing old, simple code to be more robust, secure, and modern.Expensive, but worth every penny. Kudos to the authors.

This is the most dependable book that all experienced Java developers MUST read to get a deep insight in to the intricacies of the Java programming language and master it's subtleties. The coverage is extensive and authoritative. You need to know Java at an intermediate to advanced level to enjoy the beauty of this book. The way the authors explain the topics tersely is extraordinary. This book does not have elaborate and repetitive explanations and 'real world' illustrations - generally each topic is explained with the help of simple pieces of code whose main purpose is to drive home an idea - you need to have a minimal prior level of understanding of Java to fully fathom and gain from the authors' brilliant explanations of the technicalities. I suggest that while you are going through each topic write your own small snippets of code, run and test them to verify your understanding of the topic - this gives you great confidence and long lasting understanding and is a sure shot way to master the details of the language in a retentive manner. This book has great reference value - you can come back to it time and again to get the most authoritative, clear and dependable answers to all your Java queries. A caveat - this text should not be used as a first book to learn Java from - it might only lead to boredom and frustration - this book is for mastering and fine tuning one's knowledge and skill in Java.

This book, together with The Java Language Specification 2nd Edition (and the upcoming 3rd Edition) are the core books for your reference library as far as Java is concerned. This book would be terrible if it were misused as a text to learn Java from. Do not try to learn Java from this book. The code snippets here are for illustrative purposes only and are given without any real explanation. Instead you should use this book with your college-level Java books - by Walter Savitch, Cay Horstmann, Lewis & Loftus, and so on. This book (together with The Java Language Specification and Core Java Vol I and Vol II ) provides all the technical details that textbooks often leave out. They are all published by Sun Microsystems and hence are the authoritative and last word on any Java issue. The real beauty in using this book comes when you attempt to understand some technical concept by writing your own code - and perhaps using your textbooks to help you along the way. Furthermore, you should not even attempt to study for Sun's Java certifications without this book.

This would be my first choice as first Java book. The authors condensed all the relevant material inside 500+ pages, as a side effect, the text is almost terse here and there but, in my opinion, it's a better option compared to one of those 1000+ monster manuals. Unlike within other competing titles, you will not find any redundancy here.Be aware that a solid programming knowledge and at least a basic understanding of OOP is required; if you don't meet these criteria you may be better served by Ivo Horton's excellent book published by Wrox

I just passed the Java Programmer Certificate Exam with a score of 92(require 71)yesterday. After read three leading certification prep books I still feel something missing, such as Inner classes, Interface, and inheritance. I didn't feel like I get the main spirit of Java. Then I bought this book last month. This is the best Java book I have read so far, it is concise, comprehensive. I'm a college student and have learned C++ and written C++ Code for two years. I will recommand this book to every people like me who knows C++, want to learn Java and seeking Java certification.

This book is basically the Java Language Specification (JLS) but simplified, focused and made relevant to real-world programming. If you program in Java and you haven't at least scanned through this book, you are almost certainly missing a few insights that could make your Java knowledge more precise and complete. This book doesn't just cover the language, but also some important libraries, with lots of good sample code and therefore makes a great desktop reference. The sample code is simple, as it should be because when you are scanning for an answer, you don't want a fully-fledged application example, but a snippet showing the usage idiom. However, this is not Java in a "nutshell", nor is it a pocket reference. Its a tome that you will come back to for many years unless Java changes significantly, like it did from 1.4 to 1.5.If you are just starting out with Java, this book is overkill. It takes quite a bit of patience and maturity with programming before one can handle a book of such detail. However, if you've been playing around with Java for more than an year and want to work towards becoming an expert, this is an indispensable resource.

Good book to read. Thank you.

It's interesting to read how other reviewers either love or hate this book. The reactions must depend on your background. If you have a computer science degree and are a professional programmer, you'll love this book. It's concise and thorough and clearly explains the motivation behind each feature of the language. Far superior to the other Java language books that I've seen.

Such a fine book. So accessible, yet so researched. The chapter on the origins of money in ancient Lydia (near ancient Troy) is unforgettable. Weatherford is an ethnographer who sees far beyond the ken of most economists, perhaps even J. M. Keynes and Adam Smith. The book is a great read for anyone over 17 or 18. I wish professional economists would read it. And then read Weatherford's even more amazing Indian Givers, which goes articulates the enormous contribution of Native Americans (in North and South America) to the growth of European and American capitalism itself.Amazon reviewers fault this book on relatively trivial matters. Yes, it's dated; it appeared in 1998 and guess what the world's money system has changed. Weatherford is writing about change: about the almost unimaginable changes the world's systems of regulating commerce and trade are undergoing. Most economists don't even want to think about that.

Reasonably good history of money by an anthropologist, i.e. someone better equipped to understand the interplay between society and money than economists who get carried away by their somewhat mathematical models and end up blind. As an example of the second, one of the bible manual of finance is by Mishkin who a few months before the collapse of Iceland's economy went there and said the it was very sturdy and reliable... However, Weatherford is not a "hard science mind" ; when monetary problems become technical, he says only banalities (on inflation, on "electronic money", on the figures stamped on coins -- which are in fact just about irrelevant -- etc.)

Fascinating book. Before buying books I avoid Googling for reviews, and instead I search the author on social Media. Jack is a knowledgeable, passionate historian who places stories at the center of his lessons. That's his one downside as far as I can tell. I get the sense he corrals history to fit narratives. He's not making things up! He's just leaving out counter arguments for the most part. That's all! But as someone who was raised to believe money was basically the root of all evil, this book has been an EXCELLENT introduction into where it came from and why we all use it!

I had to read this book for a macroeconomics class, and I have to say, it provided a wonderful break from my normal textbook. The book is written with the average reader in mind and really keeps you interested, which you probably wouldn't find in any other book titled "The History of Money". One thing I did notice while reading was that it was kind of gory, which was actually really fun. The author tied in a lot of human sacrifice/burning at the stake explanations in the beginning few chapters. It was seemingly out of place and described really explicitly, but it /did/ keep me reading. My one complaint is that it does seem vaguely unorganized in how it leads you through the creation and history of money. It's probably just my OCD tendencies begging for a neatly structured (and boring) timeline, but it did bother me a little nonetheless. Definitely an interesting read if you want to learn something, but avoid tedium.

I initially borrowed the book from my local library. I then decided to buy it because I thought that it would be a great book to share with my children and to have around as a reference. While the intro is a bit odd (comparing the life of a tribe woman to that of a wall street banker), the book is very well researched, full of good facts and is written in an engaging manner. My only issue is with the last few chapters, those dealing current times (like electronic money, etc.) -- these chapters felt a bit rushed and abrupt.I bought this book after reading Robert Kiyosaki's Rich Dad Poor Dad (which I decided to buy as well). In that book Mr. Kiyosaki asserts that schools fail to educate us about money resulting in people trained to be good employees but poor businessman and poor investors. Being a product of such education system, I wholeheartedly agreed with him so I decided to buy The History of Money to start filing in the missing info.Reading The History of Money was my first step in that journey and it surely helped me. Enjoy!

This book is a good read! it gives you historical insight on money and allows you to put money into all of history. You also learn the history of money (shocker, I know) and its origins. I would say this book is money and time well spent!I only have one complaint and this is major for me personally. It does feel a little like a textbook. As your reading through it goes chronologically through history, and although that of course happens, it is done in a way that gives me textbook vibes. The reason this is bothers me is that I am still a student, so I of course don't want to read a textbook. But that is only personal, so take that with a grain of salt.Overall, it is a good read and is worth time, but isn't without its flaws

This is a great book! I learned some really cool things as well as some useful ones. Everyone should read this book. You'll never watch the "Wizard of Oz" again without realizing its allegorical connection to money (read the book to find out what I am talking about).

Perhaps if I were a student of history I wouldn't be so impressed by Mr. Weatherford's views, but since I'm not I found many of his observations of historic facts fascinating, for instance, the crippling void left in Spain by the ejection of the Muslims and the Jews during and after the inquisition. The advancement of math for the masses by the early Italian banking families and the future of money in our computer age. I'm glad that I read this book because like most Americans I've spent a large amount of my time trying to acquire money without understanding what it really is and its true power in our lives, thanks Mr. Weatherford you may or may not be right in all that you write but you have started me to thinking about the subject.

This has been so helpful for me. A lot of people say it’s a good review for people who have taken chemistry before, but I’m using it more as a study guide to go along with my chemistry class (first time taking it since high school, but I’m not really counting that because I skipped a lot of school and didn’t really pay attention anyway.)I would recommend it to anyone that wants chemistry to be easier to understand!

Excellent, this book really helped me.I took a chemistry course that is usually 14 weeks in 6 weeks and was lost. This book put chemistry in plain language that made sense. I would recommend it to anyone taking a basic chemistry class.

was really exited, until I saw this. it's as if someone cut a portion of my book off with a knife or something. It only bothered me because it's a book on concepts I don't know much of, so if the information is important I won't know what I'm missing. There are more pages like these but to many to take pictures of.

A very good review for people who took chemistry a while ago

This is a great review book, however if you've never taken chemistry it will break you in gently. It makes it very easy to understand!

Bought it for my son who is in College and he says that it has helped him.

I’m a pretty big dummy when it comes to Chemistry, and after enrolling in Chemistry 105 my freshman year of college I figured I’d need to brush up a bit. This works great as a reference text, it does a good job of explaining things, starts off with the basics and doesn’t jump right into the more difficult concepts. Would recommend to any college or high school student

If your having a extremely hard time with chemistry get this book it helped me a ton. it explains things very clear, and doesn't take long to read and i hate reading.

Great introduction to the original stories. Perfect for a 2 year old.

Now, don't get me wrong, I love Beatrix Potter and her stories. My mom gave them to me when I was little. So, when I had a little one of my own how could I resist? I got this book for his first birthday, but when I read it out loud I was disappointed. While the pictures turned out vibrant, it's a very cut-down story of the beloved Peter Rabbit with a chewed-up moralless rendition of the original story. C'mon guys, I totally understand you have to squeeze a story onto less pages for board books. But this was a sloppy way to go about it.

Is this a joke? Amazon you've failed me here! No way would this book ever be found in an actual store because no one would buy it if given the chance to see it in real life first. Tiny, so tiny in fact it's hard to turn the pages. Terrible quality overall, super thin pages, and horribly pixelated, faint images. The worst quality book I've ever bought hands down.

DO NOT ORDER THE PAPERBACK. I wish I had read the reviews, but I guess I was in a hurry. I thought this would be a decent rendition of the beloved children's book "The Tale of Peter Rabbit." This is a joke. It looks like someone photo-copied it. The images aren't even centered on the page. It's only a little bigger than the size of my iPhone. So sad. So sad that amazon would even allow this to be sold.

These books are just as I remember from my childhood. I hope my daughter gets as much enjoyment out of them as i did.Peter Rabbit is a story of a rambunctious little rabbit who does not listen to his mother. He goes on an adventure and nearly gets caught by the farmer. As he is running from the farmer he gets tangled up and loses his shoes and his jacked. He makes it back home and immediately get put to bed without supper. The illustrations are well done in this book. I have thoroughly enjoyed reading it to my daughter.

The copy I got was terrible. It looks photocopied, or as if it was printed on a personal inkjet printer. It is vine with glue and hard to open.I just read that amazon reviews are not based on the actual product version, but on the story, so as another customer said, be careful when selecting which version to buy.

What can I say? I'm a rabbit lover and have loved the tale of Peter Rabbit from childhood. This coloring book not only contains many nice printed pictures to color but also contains the story as well. The book's covers contain color images of several of the pictures that are available for coloring in case you may need some guidance. The images are what you would expect from the Beatrix Potter books so if your looking for a coloring book that is what you may remember as a child, this is it.I believe the pictures are pretty simple so that even some older children could color them. The backgrounds can be a little challenging since they seem to be a little less detail and so is open more to your imagination on how to fill in. Overall, I love this coloring book and am having fun with it.

This is the second of the same baby book that I've bought. I thought about getting a different one for my second child for interests sake but I ultimately knew I would be disappointed with anything else (and so, probably, would they). This is a GREAT baby book! My search was long and hard. There are a lot of not great ones out there, and a lot of the more interesting ones aren't sweet and baby-themed enough. This is a throw-back, with Peter Rabbit, but it is also modern enough to look back on and be reminded of the baby's first year, and what those good-ole-days were really like. NOSTALGIA! I love that it's printed in Italy, instead of China; that it's made responsibly (you can read about that); that's it's such great quality - it will NEVER fall apart; that it's not silly and is pretty standard with firsts and a family tree and places for pictures of things that matter; that it has sweet, but not distracting, pictures (you can write right on top of them if you need the space); and that it expects reasonable amounts of time and effort from you but feels full and sufficient. It has a pocket in the back too, to store some things. Mostly it just doesn't annoy the ever-loving crap out of me, like most of the other's certainly would have.

A remake of the vintage Beatrix Potter Peter Rabbit tales. This version of less than thirty pages does not match the original collection of Peter Rabbit tales, but it is a nice introduction to the lessons of Peter for younger children. It lacks the lyrical language and appears curt in a few sections. On the other hand, the essential story is present. Peter, unlike his siblings, Flopsy, Mopsy, and Cotton-tail, cannot avoid containing his curiosity and disobeying his mother. He soon finds himself being chased by Farmer McGregor facing a fate similar to his father. Peter is a clever fellow, but he has several narrow escapes. In the end, his siblings do seem to be properly rewarded, while he remains the black sheep of the family. The watercolor illustrations are not quite as muted and are more modern. They do an adequate job of portraying the action for young readers. I would recommend the book especially for preschoolers

From the Inside Flap

Are we really just the result of innumerable coincidences? Or is there a more reasonable explanation? Most of us remember the basics from science classes about how Earth came to be the only known planet that sustains complex life. But what most people don't know is that the more thoroughly researchers investigate the history of our planet, the more astonishing the story of our existence becomes. The number and complexity of the astronomical, geological, chemical, and biological features recognized as essential to human existence have expanded explosively within the past decade. An understanding of what is required to make possible a large human population and advanced civilizations has raised profound questions about life, our purpose, and our destiny. This fascinating book helps nonscientists understand the countless miracles that undergird the exquisitely fine-tuned planet we call home--as if Someone had us in mind all along.|Hugh Ross (PhD, University of Toronto) is founder and president of Reasons to Believe (www.reasons.org). He is the author of many books, including More Than a Theory and Why the Universe Is the Way It Is. An astronomer and a member of the pastoral staff of a church near Caltech, Ross has addressed students and faculty on over three hundred campuses in the United States and abroad on a wide variety of science-faith topics. From science conferences to churches to government and private research labs, Ross presents powerful evidence for a purpose-filled universe. He lives in the Los Angeles area.

From the Back Cover

"With his typical clarity, insight, and precision, Ross shows how recent scientific findings undermine naturalism while simultaneously providing evidence that there is a plan, purpose, and design in the universe."--Sean McDowell, professor, Biola University; bestselling author of over fifteen books, including A New Kind of Apologist"In Improbable Planet, Ross holds readers' hands, leading them in a readable yet gently technical format through a compelling layer-upon-layer argument for the distinctiveness of the planet on which we live and of the preparation for inimitable life on Earth. The text is replete with references from primary scientific articles in some of the most well-respected journals, underscoring the highest academic rigor taken in substantiating the factual claims. Only the shamefully flippant could dismiss this book as being a faith-filled presentation rather than the scholarly work it represents."--James M. Tour, T. T. and W. F. Chao Professor of Chemistry, Rice University; R&D magazine's 2013 Scientist of the Year"Hugh Ross brilliantly silences those who would claim that this Earth, this solar system, this galaxy, and this universe are nothing but a mere accident. Improbable Planet is technical yet poetic; thoroughly scientific yet faith-inspiring. I commend it to anyone who seriously contemplates the wonder of this planet we call Earth."--Pat Robertson, founder/chairman, The Christian Broadcasting Network, Inc."Hugh Ross takes us on a riveting tour of the scientific story, from the beginning of the cosmos to present humankind. He shows how that story pushes us toward the conclusion that purpose has driven the whole story, with the different pieces intertwined and each supporting the production of an ideal habitat for human beings right here and right now. Not only will this commend Christian faith to scientifically minded inquirers, but it will also strengthen the confidence of believers that we inhabit and participate in a meaningful and purposeful story."--C. John "Jack" Collins, professor of Old Testament, Covenant Theological Seminary"With thorough notations and research, Hugh Ross takes us on a journey through time and space to bring us firmly back to our own planet, formed by one Creator. For those who need a scientific explanation of our universe and the life-forms within it, you will be satisfied. For those who already believe that God's divine hand created the world and all life within, you will be validated. Hugh Ross writes to stretch our intellect and to strengthen our faith. Improbable Planet does the improbable--demonstrates that the language of science does not threaten but instead augments the prose of evangelism."--Ed Young, senior pastor, Second Baptist Church, Houston, TX

This book should be carefully studied by atheists, skeptics, and people of faith, including Christians. It includes almost 40 pages of citations delineated in a sequential, logical way that shows, with each chapter building on the chapter before, how Earth's development happened. The relevance of this book is that it offers clear answers to felt macro-questions:* What does Earth's history reveal about the value of human life, including my life?* If human life is so valuable, then why are billions of people living in miserable conditions?* What do the ongoing massive changes in Earth's conditions suggest about the future of Earth and the future of humanity?* Why does human life need such a massive universe in which 50 billion trillion stars comprise only 1% of its total mass?Using the scholarly research of world-renowned scientists and refereed academic journals,Hugh Ross presents an elaborate set of scientific facts garnered from several different scientific disciplines (astrophysics, biophysics, chemistry, geology, biology). His main contribution is to synthesize those facts, authenticate them with Scripture, and then show the general public (along with academic elites) what scientific truth reveals: that Earth was specially made for people and also specially made to accommodate human redemption. In other words, the history of Earth reveals its miraculous inception (creation) and its space-time capacity for being the venue for the miracle of redemption. Here are some key lines from the book (in quotes) which may or may not be followed by explanatory comments from me:* Earth is . . . a planet with a very long history of life, a history that led to the appearance of human beings. We are not constrained to a low population in a few restricted areas. Humans currently occupy all of Earth's landmasses. We have multiplied to a population exceeding 7 billion individuals, and have achieved a high-level technology that continues to advance on a global scale. All these features of current human existence and civilization would be impossible unless life originated on Earth as early as physically possible." (p. 93)* The anthropic principle has become the prebiotic principle" (p.21). In other words, whereas naturalistic scientists have long claimed that humanity's existence places severe constraints on the Milky Way Galaxy, the solar system, and Earth, scientist Marcelo Gleiser (Brazilian Professor of Physics and Astronomy at Dartmouth College) has said that what was formally seen as constraints is now understood to be nothing more than "the preconditions for primitive life.* What would be easier to take for granted than dirt? However basic is may seem, the ubiquity of dirt represents no small coincidence. The complex story traces back to . . . "Hugh Ross explains the history of dirt, mountains, oceans, the moon, and more. That's why I have long stated that Hugh Ross, Ph.D. is my favorite worship leader. All these many facts vividly declare the glory of God.I highly recommend this book and hope it is used as required reading in classrooms all over the world. We are certainly going to use it in our graduate levels courses in Right On Mission. See rightonmission.org.No one asked me to write this book review; I did so freely of my own volition without being remunerated.

As a person who has studied many of the sciences for over 50 years and who became a Christian 14 months ago, I found this book to be a genuine treasure. It should be made into a movie. Although it can be fairly technical sometimes, even a layman can grasp most of the concepts. Having it laid out visually with a good narrator could make it available to a much wider audience. Having said that, I do highly recommend getting this book and working your way through it. It will be well worth your time and effort.

I am neither a scientist nor a theologian, but I loved this book. I've always subscribed to the seven literal (i.e., 24 hour) days of creation. This book opened myeyes to the intricate eeons of careful preparation measured in "God days", possibly billions of years. Some of the technical terms were a little above my head; however, the concepts were eventually explained in terms simple enough even for me. The great mass of improbably tight tolerances required to support life as we know it left me filled with awe. In the end,, the point is not how long it took God to create this earth but that He invested so much to make it what it is. Wow. Definitely worth reading.

My neurosurgeon, Stan Rouhe, gave an interview to a couple of his friends in the final days of his life as he accepted the fact that his current battle with pancreatic cancer was leading to his physical death. He did not fear death because he said he knew that God's existence was a FACT! He said that he arrived at that conclusion after he read a book by Hugh Ross that his daughter had given him. His friends posted their interview online enabling his friends to share his last thoughts and spiritual growth during his last days on Earth. I asked myself what kind of scientific proof could have convinced my friend and doctor of 40 years to make such a bold statement as "God's existence is a FACT." I went straight to Amazon and ordered this book on my kindle so that I, too, could have su ch scientific certainty of God's existence.I did not expect to be convinced. I expected to still have to depend on faith. That was not the case. I finished the book with a sense of absolute knowledge. The scientific information is arranged as an analogy of building a complex structure. It shows how complex the process was to create a planet capable of supporting advanced forms of life was. The planet had to revolve around a star of a particular size and mass, a particular distance away, with a particular age, luminosity, and radiation. Elements had to be created in specific amounts and concentrations at exactly the right times. Different forms of life had to be created and extinguished at exact times to create heavy metals and fossil fuels for future use. Ice ages had to appear at particular predictable intervals, and continents had to drift, collide, and lift mountains and plateaus like the one in Tibet. There had to be a particular amount of water and a specific amount of land. Certain forms of life needed to appear at certain times to control temperature and form soil . No other planet located in the Milky Way comes even close to meeting these requirements. Complex forms of life dependent upon each other suddenly appeared sooner than could be formed by evolution.I went on the internet to find my long-term friend and doctor--only to find my friend is gone from this world and to be given the same scientific proof of God's existence that he found before his passing. The scientific case for God appears to be stronger in this book than it is in the Bible. The book is a wonderful, parting gift.

I had 2 courses of astronomy in college and could only read a few pages at a time. It is complex maybe because I didn't take physics in college. I did comprehend it and found it very informative. He sticks to the sciences of the planet and galaxy with a super intelligent designer in mind. The religious portion doesn't show up until the last chapter. He definitely knows what he writes in explaining how lucky we are to have a planet to live on. It made me appreciate Earth more. It is not a simple read. It is written for people interested in astronomy and/or astrophysics.

I bought this as a birthday gift for my Dad. He's read the whole thing, and loves it. We have been going to this area together for decades, and him decades before me. With as much information as he has about this enchanting corner of the world, he still found this book very interesting. He said that the pictures were awesome. It also shows 20 miles or so of the the surrounding areas of the backcountry that we have backpacked into before. Pretty awesome...
