"A Blue's Clues Holiday" is a classic "Blue's Clues" book (featuring Steve) loaded with fun holiday ideas. Like most earlier "Blue's Clues" books, Steve is inserted into the illustrated story using photography.The book starts out with everyone in the Blue's Clues house making holiday decorations. There's paper chains, paper snowflakes and even a bubble snowman from Slippery. There's also Mr. Salt and Mrs. Peppers' delicious recipe for snowball cookies.We also visit each of Blue's to give them a holiday present. We see how they all celebrate the holidays.This book mentions a number of different holidays and some may consider it to be somewhat "politically correct." But really, it's true to the TV series and fans of the show will likely enjoy this book.

My son (nearly 3) loves this book, and we have been reading it long past the holiday season. He probably loves it because it has all of his favorite Blues Clues characters. I like it because it equally recognizes all of the winter holidays (Christmas, Hanukkah and Kwanzaa)and discusses activities that are appropriate for all three--making cookies, paper snowflakes, etc. This book is sweet, appealing, and sensitive to that fact that there are many holiday traditions, and for that we give it five stars!

This book tries to oversimplify the meaning of holidays in December for children. By doing this, it actually changes the meaning of the holidays, and I think adds more confusion than just explaning the real meanings. Christmas is not the celebration of "birth", it is the celebration of Jesus's birth. I don't know anyone who goes to a hospital to celebrate birth, or hangs diapers and rattles on their house on December 25th. I think kids might confuse babyshowers or birthdays with "Christmas", and eventually parents will have to explain the real meaning anyways. There is nothing politically incorrect about printing the name Jesus in a book, or accurately portraying the real meaning behind Christmas. Because some people don't choose to acknowledge it, doesn't mean the meaning of Christmas changes, or it is offensive say the name Jesus. GOOD GRIEF!

My kids love this book. It has activities that are simple and fun for small kids to do. The cookies that the kids made even came out well. Even if you don't do the activities, the book is just sweet and cute and teaches the kids about the different holidays that are celebrated in winter.

Dr. Bill Rawls graduated from Bowman Gray School of Medicine at Wake Forest University in 1985. He holds a medical license in North Carolina. After practicing obstetrics and gynecology for fifteen years, Dr. Rawls life was changed forever by a confrontation with fibromyalgia and Lyme disease. The years spent regaining his health laid the foundation for passions in both writing and natural herbal medicine. After successfully restoring his own health, he set about to help others do the same. Recognizing the profound limitations of conventional medicine for treating chronic conditions such as chronic Lyme disease and fibromyalgia, he devoted his life to finding a better way. Ten years of intensive self-study in herbal medicine and other natural therapies combined with numerous seminars and a certification course in holistic medicine define his present practice focused on health restoration. He uses his passion for writing and study of natural herbal medicine to reach out to those left behind by the current healthcare system. Dr. Rawls has written extensively on health topics, including Lyme disease, fibromyalgia, chronic immune dysfunction, and other health and wellness topics. I have read several Lyme disease books and I must say that this proved to be the most helpful. The author's aim, I believe, was to make the disease understandable and approachable, and to present a common sense and effective treatment routine that can deliver positive results. Mission accomplished, as far as I can tell so far. I was recently diagnosed with chronic Lyme by my physician, and was laid low by the complication of a couple of seasonal viruses this winter. I have been following the herbal/vitamin/mineral supplement plan in the book and feel so much better already. Coincidence? Who can say. But this book's explanation of how the borellia bacteria works, what is behind my symptoms, and how natural products can offer immune support and can actually attack the Lyme, has made a convert out of me. Any doctor will tell you that, for chronic Lyme at least, synthetic antibiotics are the only real option they can offer, and that they don't believe the synthetic antibiotics can actually work at this point. This book points out that herbs and other plants that have antimicrobial properties can do the job better and more safely, while offering all this in a combo package of ingredients that enhance your overall health. Win-Win. Anyway, I give the book a great deal of credit for giving me an understandable option for improving the quality of my life. Thank you, Dr. Rawls.

This (along with New Paradigms in Lyme Disease by Connie Strasheim) is the best book I have found about chronic lyme disease. Many respected lyme books focus primarily on the importance of killing lyme microbes. This is not helpful for those of us with chronic lyme, because after years of treatment, either traditional antibiotic or herbal, the presence of lyme is no longer what is making us ill. Most the lyme microbes are already gone. Dr Rawls puts the microbes and the damage they cause into a larger perspective. He focuses on the real source of healing - the immune system. Immune system dysfunction (caused by lyme and the co-infections) is what perpetuates the illness of chronic lyme. This awareness is starting to become more well known, and this is the best book I have found on the subject. Dr Rawls writing style is clear and direct, and he respects the reader's intelligence by providing the underlying reasoning for his statements. The book is filled with practical steps for recovery from chronic lyme and to support the immune system. You will learn in this book how much you can do on your own, and the impact of environmental and other stressors you may not have been aware of.

Of some 16 books I have read about chronic Lyme disease, this is one of the best. Highly recommended for fellow Integrative practioners and for parents of my pediatric Lyme patients. This book is remarkably well conceived and organized and covers almost all of the therapies I have learned about well. But don'y be discouraged - it may seem impossible to change the modern diet so drastically, but you will be rewarded with vastly improved health. My immune system has improved in leaps and bounds. I have just started to apply the herbal supplement protocol, so I can't testify to how quickly they work, but one must begin to regain health from this insidious disease somewhere. Regain it or continue loosing it - that is the reality we face.If I had designed the cover for Dr Rawl's latest book, the word "Hope" would simply be emblazoned across the cover, with perhaps a few attendant angels singing.

I bought this book over 4 years ago... and I've never regretted it. AS a comic artist, this is a phenomenal source book. The wide range of weapons, the alternate angles, and the inclusion of human models holding the firearms all work together to showcase great guiding tools for artists.Worded details are also included on each gun, talking about the sort of bullets and accessories they are compatible with.While having an index [The T.O.C.] of everything included, the book actually starts off with 5 pages of assorted colored guns [large and small], which give a great coloring reference for those handy with software like Photoshop... and there is a page that shows colored motorcycles [Still don't know why this was added].Handguns, machine guns, old cowboy guns, guns from some movies like Robocop etc, are all included. One of my favs, the Mack10-called the Ingram M10 or the Ingram M11-(it was used extensively in the Matrix movies with extended cartridges) is included, and the artist/author of the book does an excellent job in presenting different views and labels to his crisp inked artwork, allowing you to even note joints, sliders and little engravings on the weapons that affect the functionality/adaptability of the guns.There are no sci fi futuristic weapons in this book, but you can always twist the presented references and use your imagination to make something unique.These days, I still use this book... and I also draw guns via internet references.Great book! Get it!

I spent a long time trying to find references for guns to draw and aside from the gun magazines (which wasn't what I was looking for) I could not find a good reference for multiple guns. Finally, I found this book and am very impressed. Its in the how to draw manga series but the only manga aspect is the people holding the guns. These gun illustration will work for any medium. From what I can tell this is the best reference for putting guns into your artwork.This book does not actually tell you how to draw the guns step by step but I encourage beginners to get it any way. If you are willing to use a ruler emulating a majority of the guns in the book are not that difficult. To draw most of the guns draw the outline with a ruler, you could even measure the actual picture in the book, and fill in the detail. From what I've seen there aren't really any "beginner" gun instructions anywhere.This is another very well made book in the How to draw manga series, and I recommend it.

This book does not give steps, and as such you must be able to draw from reference material to make use of it. As a reference book, it does fairly well. The guns are shown from different angles, and the technical data given assists with research (provided the selection of firearms lines up with your research). Flipping through it a few times, I've yet to see any errors. The book also gives reference pictures of aiming postures and uniforms, making it a good reference guide for artists who don't want to spend two hours on google images trying to find that one useful picture.

Some information is erroneous, but for basic weapons at various angles it's fine. If you intend to include any of the info here in some written or filmed medium, do your research elsewhere.

Like most of the How to Draw Manga series, this is more of a reference guide then a book on how to draw. The cover says Guns and Military, but it's mostly only guns (although it does have about 3 pages dedicated to Russian, Japanese and American police uniforms). It has over 22 different types of guns, and gets very detailed as with the types of bullets the gun uses, who uses them, and how to a person would aim them. I really enjoyed this book. It is great for learning how to draw weapons, not just anime style, but any style. This book really has little to do with anime. But the weapons are great. There are many different angles and bits of information, like how many bullets they use, what country used them and when, etc. My only complaint would be the lack of futuristic weapons. Also, don't expect knives or swords. It's just a book of guns (and some random motorcycles).

This book is really great for anyone wanting to include guns or other military realted tools in their manga or stories. The book is very well done and the pictures are accurate. The author has also included useful information about diffrent types of guns, ammunition, fireing styles, gun modifications used by shooters around the world. The other great thing about it is it is layman friendly, the author goes through alot of information that will help you better understand how guns work and why diffrent modifications and ammunitions are uses for diffrent purposes. Besides guns the book also cover accessories and some military uniforms from diffrent countries. Again I have to comment on the accuracy of the information. I've seen firearm encyclopedias that don't cover as much as they do in this book. It is really work getting.

My son is an avid artist who like to draw comics and manga. He wanted a book that referanced firearms for his action scenes. He seems to be very happy with the book.

Jack Schwager is a managing director and principal of The Fortune Group, an alternative asset management firm regulated in the UK and the United States. Schwager is the Senior Portfolio manager for Fortune's Market Wizards Funds of Funds, a broadly diversified series of institutional hedge fund portfolios. He also serves on the board of Fortune's research affiliate Global Fund Analysis, a leading source of independent hedge fund research. His prior experience includes 22 years as the director of futures research for some of Wall Street's leading firms and 10 years as the co-principal of a commodity trading advisory firm.Mr. Schwager is perhaps best known as the author of the best-selling Market Wizards (1989), and the equally popular The New Market Wizards (1992). A third volume in this series, Stock Market Wizards, published by HarperCollins, was released in early 2001. Mr. Schwager's first book, A Complete Guide to the Futures Markets, which was published in 1984, is considered to be one of the classic reference works in the field. After the hundreds of trading books I have read I still consider Jack Schwagers Market Wizards Series the best of the best. Why? His trading books are not based on theories, opinions, predictions, or beliefs, he goes down a completely different path. His books are based on interviewing the very best traders in the world, the ones with the very best returns year after year, the millionaires, the traders that trade for a living. The New Market Wizards book gives you an up close look at how rich traders were able to find and master a trading style that fit their personality and allowed them to beat the market year after year. If you read this book carefully and pay attention you should find some trading principles that are gems that could revolution your trading. I know his books have done that for me. If other trading books are like letting you see a trader's trading plan then Schwagers books are like allowing the reader to see directly into the mind of the rich trader. I would put this book on my top ten must read trading books.

New Market Wizards is worth a read. Some points thatI gather are as follows:1. Two secrets of trading success:Preservation of capital and Home Runs.2. It is not easy to buy a stock after you have sold it.3. Use left brain for fundamentals and right brain forimagination and story behind how a stock will soar.4. Victor Sperando's goal in Wall Street is not to getrich but to stay in business.5. The key to success is not knowledge alone butemotional discipline. The best analogy to this isdieting. You know that to slim down, you need toexercise and avoid fats. But the knowledge of thisdoes not make you slim. It is the discipline to doit that counts.6. Have a balanced life.7. Do not buy a stock that is going down even if thefundamentals are good. (when broking houses areissuing 'buy' calls)8. Never use valuation to time the market.9. Be able to get over a loss in twenty four hours.Otherwise, the position is too big.10. Emotional makeup and discipline is more importantthan IQ. (i.e. IQ is still important)11. To win, you have to be the minority contrarian.And the most important is this:12. Watch idly when profit is running. When losing,run like a jackrabbit. You do go broke taking a profit.Let profits run!I have a question here. How does one let profits run?How does one know if the price will not reverse andyour profit turns into a loss?

After reading both Market Wizards and The New Market Wizards I see there is more potential in trading for me. One big encouragement I gleaned from both of these books is that there are many methods that were successful for the all time great traders and their recommendation to new traders is to learn your own way of trading that gives you an edge. Then don't listen to all the "talking heads" or friends and family. Just study and learn what you can then find and tweak your edge. Then follow your plan so you can remove emotions.These were the most amazingly informative and encouraging books I have read about trading.

This is a modern day trading classic and the book should inspire all traders. I should say, all traders who really want to improve their results. Schwager brings up that point in so many of his reviews of the top traders, that many are constantly trying to improve. I have wanted to read this book for many years and I should have many, many years ago but now that I have it is certainly one of the books that can be read several times.

The book is probably best if you have a couple of years of trading experience, but it can certainly be read by a novice as well.I would say it is more of a book you read one chapter at a time and for fun, rather than in a focused manner. If you come across something surprising then you read more carefully and maybe investigate a bit more.

You can get page after page of description of some clockwork contraption, or a whole chapter devoted to a tour of a steam powered engine room. That's not what you get here.Reeve is great at broad stroke world building. He creates the London traction city in a chapter or two. He shows us all of the levels, how it works, how people fit into it, and the larger world within which it operates, and he frames all of the major characters within the first 50 pages. After that we are off to the races on a high energy, twisty and marvelously colorful adventure.And this is a marvelous adventure. Our hero is a bit timid but finds the swashbuckler within. Our heroine is tough, smart, resourceful, and on a mission. This is a fine team. Around and through them we meet a memorable cast of colorful and compelling allies and villains. This is ripping stuff. Lots of running, hiding, lurking, escaping, fighting, and derring do. I was a bit surprised by the level of violence, and not cartoon violence, in the story, but that's treated as a serious consequence of dangerous times and this is still, after all, a dystopian world tale.So, I enjoyed this immensely and appreciated the high level of imagination and creative energy that went into building and then convincingly portraying this fascinating world.

I found out about this book after seeing a preview for the movie and doing a bit of research. The idea of a sci-fi adventure/intrigue with moving cities that need to "eat" other cities sounded like it would be a fascinating read.Sadly, I can't say that I found the story to be nearly as compelling as the idea of it. I can't really put a finger on why I'm not enthralled. The idea is there, the action is there, but I guess the characters fall a bit flat for me. I am finding the book interesting, but not strongly and I've already started to lose interest in any of the sequels.It's just missing the magic piece I guess.

The Story-Tom is a junior historian in the city of London. It is a thousand years since humanity almost destroyed itself in a sixty minute war, and now all cities are built on huge traction machines that roll over the earth and snatch up smaller traction cities.Tom is sent down to the guts to look for artifacts after London eats a mining town. While there he is surprised to see his idol, Valentine, head historian and archaeologist of London. Things turn bad when one of the mining town survivors charges Valentine and tries to kill him. Tom runs after the villain, amazed to see that it is a young woman with a scar down the side of her face and a missing eye.Through different means, they both end up expelled from the city and for the first time Tom finds himself on real ground. Together Tom and Hester try to find their way back to London, Hester to finish her murder and Tom just to get home. However, along the journey Tom learns the truth about his idol Valentine and the ugliness of living in a city eat city world.My Thoughts-This book scores points for originality. The idea of an entire city, as big as London, rolling around on traction wheels and getting their supplies by eating up lesser cities and stripping them bare, blows my mind. I honestly would not have been able to picture it if it hadn't been for the movie trailer. Whether it is in any way realistic is another story, but since this is a fantasy/dystopian novel, I'll let it roll.Let's talk about our main characters, there is actually a quad, Tom and Hester and then Katherine (Valentine's daughter) and Bevis (a junior engineer). Tom and Hester are working their way back to London, discovering flying airships and other mini cities along the way. They also learn of the resistance movement against traction cities. Katherine and Bevis both live in London. Katherine is disillusioned by facts she finds out about her father and Bevis knows the secrets of the engineers and the robots and deadly weapon that are being built. Together they try from within London to stop the insane mayor from destroying the world.The plot is full of twists and turns and as a reader I was eager to find out what the world was like that Hester and Tom lived in. It was also interesting to see technology from our current day have such an impact in the future. There is great tension and build up and the ending scenes are full of action. I enjoyed my ride through this novel. However, I felt as if something were missing. Tom and Hester are great characters, but there is nothing very special about them. I wanted there to be something that only Hester or Tom could accomplish that would save the city or world. Some type of hidden hero archetype or unknown skill that surfaces. I needed to feel that this same adventure could not have happened to any other two kids.So, overall I recommend this book for its originality and action and I'm giving it 4 stars!

Maybe I've come to expect too much from the likes of Orson Scott Card. I'm definitely NOT the Young Adult demographic I suppose this book is aimed at, but even if I were, I think I would have found this book uncaptivating. I love the idea, and really look forward to seeing the movie, but this book's treatment of the story felt insipid, lukewarm, unconvincing.If you want to get an idea what the upcoming movie is all about, maybe it's worth $6.I had a really hard time caring about any of the characters. Too many of them - even the apparent main characters - were just tropes and not really developed beyond those tropes. The author has a habit of making a character appear to be somewhat important, and then killing them off rather flippantly, and in a way that shows they were not really that important. After a while, I started thinking "Cool kid. Shouldn't really start rooting for him, because he's probably dead in 20 pages anyway."And nobody really mourned anyone that was killed off. They were just - gone.Without any spoilers, I was also bothered by the sudden character turnarounds several times - I don't think people change their core nature as readily as they were portrayed in this book. "Hello, my name is Inigo Montoya, you killed my father prepare to die... oh, we're best friends now." Wait - what?I guess my review boils down to this: if you replaced all the character development in this book, I'd love the story.
