OCCULT / SEXUALITY Conceived by Paschal Beverly Randolph, Magia Sexualis has been heralded as the most influential book about sex magic ever written, surviving to the present day solely through Maria de Naglowska’s French translation. Published more than 50 years after Randolph’s death, the authorship of this “translation” has been repeatedly called into question: While the greater part of the content can be traced to Randolph’s known works, a very significant portion cannot--leading to the conclusion that this work was supplemented by Naglowska’s own sex magic work and extensive occult teachings. Magia Sexualis explains Randolph’s meticulous science of sex magic, practiced by the Brotherhood of Eulis and the Hermetic Brotherhood of Light. Beginning with exercises to develop essential skills, the book explains in step-by-step detail how to perform sex magic rituals for specific results, such as greater strength or enhancement of the senses, how to charge and use a “volt”--an effigy of a specific person you want to influence or protect, how to enliven a painting in order to influence those who view it, and how to create magical talismans with specific planetary forces, using what Randolph calls “fluid condensers.” This work from two great occult minds shows that true power of the spirit is acquired in conjunction with the power of sex--affirming that “sex is the fundamental force in every being, the most powerful force in Nature, and the most characteristic evidence of God.” PASCHAL BEVERLY RANDOLPH (1825-1875) was an African American doctor, Rosicrucian, and occultist who introduced sex magic to North America. Readers of this book will in the 21st century largely fall into three categories-- the F.R.A. and other Rosicrucians seeking further works of Dr. Paschal B. Randolph, the Thelemic Magicians who purchased the Magickal Childe's 1st English translation Sexual magic 30 years ago, and modern-day Occult and/or Tantra students already familiar with Maria de Naglowska's The Sacred Rite of Magical Love: A Ceremony of Word and Flesh,The Light of Sex: Initiation, Magic, and Sacrament, and Advanced Sex Magic: The Hanging Mystery Initiation.All will be well served by this recent new translation. The translator and editor is quite familiar with Dr. Randolph's works, and is often able to cite page and paragraph of works such as "The New Mola" and "The Ansieratic Mysteries" to firmly ascertain what are Randolph's teachings, and what portions are certainly Ms. de Naglowska's own additions. Even so, there are parts and portions the translator leaves unattributed as they are not found in the published writings of either Ms. de Naglowska or Dr. Randolph.A close comparison with the Magickal Childe edition shows some changes in translation; there are times the translator suggests that Ms. Naglowska may have been working from a hand-written manuscript, and offers what seem to be logical suggestions. I suspect that the wealth of material available through the Internet, 1st edition reproduction PDFs of all of Dr. Randolph's works, as cited in the present edition, assisted the present translator to identify when the material steers sharply away from Dr. Randolph and towards Ms. de Naglowska's.
Love this book. Synchronicity would have it that I was taking an electronics course at the same time I was reading this book. When you realize what a "circuit" really is, then the magic begins.
