Great book about a normal family and their struggle to survive after an emp. I liked it because it wasn’t someone with a huge bunker and every survival tool known to man, just a school teacher his wife and kids fighting to get home.

Certainly a top shelf novel, of ordinary people coping with a national emergency where there is no law and order except at checkpoints. Probably very realistic about what might happen. Author weaves into the story most things that would probably happen, thus is a good primer for food for thought. He does emphasize the need for self-protection, e.g., guns, ammo and training, to keep your loved ones and self safe from predators. Of course, there is now a Federal law about "police" confiscating guns in an emergency, and such an order would be unlawful, putting the police in an "only Might is Right" situation. Also, you NEVER want to lay a weapon on the ground or walk away from it. Then it is totally useless to you when you need it. Use holsters and slings. Always. The one thing I didn't like was a description of a character "wrapping his gun around his hand." Shouldn't it be the other way around? An excellent story nonetheless.

Wow, wow, wow! Abraham’s has outdone himself on this one! Simply put, the end of the world as we know it comes about and a simple high school physics teacher comes into his own. Surviving appearing insurmountable odds, they make it home, only to find that the new skills and abilities he’s learned will be necessary to survive. A great read!

I bought the original three novellas after reading The Perseid Collapse by Steven Konkoly and discovering that Tom Abraham's novellas took place in the same event; and I enjoyed them very much! They tied in well and took me back into the story/event, through the eyes and emotion of another family. Though I already own the individual novellas, I did purchase the new single novel for my library as well... can't beat the $0.99 price, and having all three books in one is a plus!

4.5 out of 5 starsOriginally published as three novellas partially based (set in the same world) as Steven Konkoly’s Perseid Collapse series – Pilgrimage (which I can’t spell to save my life) takes a normal family and throws them into extraordinary situations. Will they survive or will they perish? Will this new world be too much for them?Coined as the everyday family surviving type of a book – I wasn’t sure where Abrahams was going to go with it (but if you’re familiar with me, you know that I love his work). Pilgrimage starts in Maine (one of my all time favorite places and we meet a family who is out on vacation trying to relax a bit from their crazy lives (and getting over a death from the pandemic also based on a Konkoly story). We meet the Rockwell family and are introduced to the father a high school teacher.James Rockwell (Rock) was one of those unforgettable types of characters. He’s not quite to the level of Marcus Battle but was memorable in different ways. The high school teacher was a nice touch – he was able to talk about science and some of the what was happening more than the average post-apocalyptic character can (and I enjoyed that thoroughly). They are very quickly thrown into the muck when things on their remote island start to go off the rails. They are forced to survive by any means necessary and find out more about themselves and each other as things get harder and harder. I loved watching the family get by and the interaction between the kids, wife, and Rock. It was interesting to see them concerned for each other but also to play off each other’s strengths.I can’t go much more into what this family endured, but the ending (and last third of the book or so) was a total roller coaster of emotions and action. I wasn’t sure just what was going to happen. I want to quote the ending but it would give too much away. The changing from book to book wasn’t as harsh as I was expecting it to be and they really worked well together. Couple that together with Pierce’s narration and you have another wonderfully written and performed post-apocalyptic books.

Fast-paced action, relatable characters, well-detailed.

This was a regular book. A full book. A real book. Not some 1 hour read that requires you to purchase a long series of books that never end, we have enough of those kinds of movies/shows where there is no stopping point to satisfy. I couldn't put it down, and it was full of action, and excitement...to the satisfying end.

A family on vacation at the wrong place, at the wrong time. Now they must suffer the horrors of survival while finding their way home in a world where the law no longer exists and there are no rules among those who take this event as their chance at doing all the things the prior laws prevented them from doing. Go with this family as they fight their way across the miles of pure terror.Yes, I highly recommend this book for it's story of edge of your seat, nail biting excitement. As always, happy reading.
