NANCY THEN GOES ON TO TELL US ABOUT HER CAREER AT OLD DOMINION, WHERE SHE HELPED WIN 2 NCAA TITLES. AFTER THAT SHE PLAYED A LITTLE WOMEN'S PRO BALL. BUT ALOT OF THIS BOOK IS ABOUT HER RELATIONSHIP WITH TENNIS STAR MARTINA NAVRATILOVA. SHE HELPED WHIP MARTINA INTO SHAPE WITH VERY INTENSE AND EXCRUCIATING WORK OUT AND EXERCISE PROGRAM. I LIKE THIS BOOK BUT I THINK SHE IS COVERING UP ALOT AND IS NOT TRULY HONEST.
Not surprisingly, the highlight of this book is the part about Lieberman's relationship with Martina Navratilova. The rest, unfortunately, is pretty forgettable. Lieberman doesn't admit to being lovers with Navratilova (even though it's fairly common knowledge now)but is very forthcoming about the intense and volatile nature of their relationship. She states that she found Navratilova to be "helpless, like a little baby" and wanted to protect her. She also details their numerous fights and arguments, most notably a vicious fight the night before the 1983 Wimbledon singles final. Lieberman's description of their breakup is an exact carbon copy of how Martina's other exes Rita Mae Brown and Judy Nelson described their break ups. I found this part a bit disturbing and frankly began to wonder if Navratilova (though obviously charming, intelligent and talented)is a bit of a sociopath. She seems to use women and just walk away when she's finished with them.
