3D PRINTERS: A BEGINNER’S GUIDE promises to teach the basics of 3D printing construction and to provide tips and tricks for data, software, CAD, error checking, and slicing. The book is useful for its explanations of the differences in the way various 3D printers work (e.g., some use undesirable threaded rods for the frame), but the printing and designing tips are based on screenshots of web sites (e.g., Thingiverse) and of specific software (Netfabb, Slic3r, Printrun, Turbocad) that you may or may not be using.Personally, I lack the patience to study how-to manuals that teach with screenshots. Also, although all 3D printers require modeling software and slicer software, so that one can learn from discussions of how to use specific 3D software apps, this is generally NOT an efficient way to learn.For one thing, an app discussed in the book may have settings or steps that aren’t available or applicable to the 3D printer that you happen to own. Also, the icons in the screenshots will probably look very different from the equivalent icons (the ones that perform the same type of operations) in your own software. This is true even if you’re using the same software as the book, because software designers are constantly issuing new versions with redesigned interfaces.The general discussion of 3D printer maintenance (pp. 115-117) is useful, but you’ll need YouTube videos to help if you start tightening or adjusting parts. The discussion of failed prints is extremely general, so if you want to understand what’s going wrong with your prints, you might consider the excellent 3D Printing Failures book instead.This book has nice full-color illustrations, and some of the photos (e.g., the one on the cover) are quite inspirational. Of course, some of the photo gallery models shown are far beyond the capabilities of a hobbyist’s tabletop 3D printer, but they do prove that anything can be printed on a 3D printer.

I had just ordered a 3D printer (haven't received it yet) and this book has helped me greatly with what is required to have as far as tools and programs to have in preparation. I would highly recommend this book for anyone who wants to dive into 3D printing. It's not a big book and it contains lots of pictures for reference. Very easy to read and understand even for someone who has never interacted with 3D printing.

High quality printing and well written. Not particularly in depth, but provides a good introduction to the world of 3D printing. Definitely worth while of some one who knows nothing about 3D printing, and wants to acquire enough knowledge to make an informed decision on the next steps.

This book ranks up there with Buddha's LIttle Finger andThe Sacred Book of the Werewolf as one of Pelevin's best. He entertains us with a good story, gives a scathing critique of our shallow materialistic values, gives us glimpses of the divine, and brings us home the same day. I liked the book so much I ordered one for a friend. He says he reads it on the toilet, which, if you know Pelevin, is entirely fitting.

Oh man. This book is a real trip. If you love quasi-spirituality, sci-fantasy, urban fantasy, or supernatural fiction, this could be your next great read.If you are easily offended, take a pinch of salt in with you.

Another good book by Viktor Pelevin. Not his best but still a great read. If you haven't read any of his stuff then you should. He has a unique voice and a very fresh approach to writing.

I really like this IR modeling book and I have a bunch. I'm currently using it for course work. The book is laid out very well. The first few chapters are a nice review of stochastic calculus, martingale rep. theorem, interest rates - short rates, zero coupon bonds etc. Then comes the HJM Model with Ho-Lee & Hull-White explained with examples. Then we have the Libor Market Model with all the instruments explained: caps, floors, swaps, FRA's, etc. The LMM is fully explained with MC simulation as well. The book then goes into calibration of the LMM along with volatility & correlation adjustments, which is where I'm at now.The maths are definitely rigorous but the examples are so well laid out that it is fairly straightforward to follow. I highly recommend this book.

I have read other interest rate modeling books and this book is definitely the best. Other books tend to cover too many theories without depth and too many kinds of models which do not have much practical values. This book not only has the right amount of practical models but also provides you with understandable derivations and numerical examples which are vitally important for learners and practitioners. As a teaching professor and an active researcher in the forefront, the author clearly understands what is important from students' point of view and which theory is most important. Since the author is also a specialist in numerical analysis, the numerical examples are also better presented than other books.If you are seriously interested in learning interest rate modeling, buy this book.

This book is a delight to read. Apparently the author has put a lot of thoughts into the selection and presentation of the materials, so that it is concise and deep, yet can be followed page by page easily. I have read many other texts and monographs, and consider this as a rare find in financial modeling books. As a practitioner, I find it useful as a well-organized top-down review and in-depth research of the most popular interest rate models. As a former university professor, I know this would be my choice of textbook if I were to teach a course in interest rate models, as students would benefit from the very relevant materials and the clarity and easy flow of logic.

I read the 5 Love Languages book written by Gary Chapman years ago. I just recently purchased another copy of that book because I lost my original. I'm re-reading the book while my husband is listening to the book on CD. I'm not sure what I expected when I ordered this devotional book, but it has certainly exceeded my expectations.The book itself is very nice. It has a leather look and feel. It doesn't look "girly" so it looks nice on your bedside table no matter if you are maleaving or female. Prior to receiving this we were reading a devotional every night before bed together. Even though the devotions were good, they rarely touched on marriage, relationships or anything like what we need right now. The devotions in this book are so good I have actually sat down and read some of them like a regular book. They truly hit home for both spouses and in my opinion help couples understand each other better. During a difficult time in our marriage we have found this book to be extremely helpful.The devotions are about a page long but not dull or boring reads. They are informative but not difficult to understand or comprehend. Even though we are reading/listening to the 5 Love Languages at the same time separately this seems to be the glue to bring all of that together.Reading this at night before we go to bed seems to be particularly nice. It's the end of the day, work is over, chores are finished, kids are in bed & after being in a marriage/relationship for many years it's a much needed time of sharing and quiet yet thoughtful moment together.I would recommend this devotional to anyone in a marriage, long term committed relationship or even for newlyweds just starting out. This would make a great gift to a newly married couple.I have nothing negative to say about this devotional at all. I think I enjoy this more than the book to be honest. My husband seems to enjoy it as well which is really saying something because he's not a "reader" or lover of books in general.I DID NOT receive this book at a discount, for free or as a part of any program. I purchased it by choice with my own money. My reviews are my own honest opinions and thoughts.

My husband and I are empty-nesters, missionaries. We have been using this in the mornings together after personal devotions. Let me say, this book gets right down to the issues! It really addresses the things we are still working through after nearly 30 years of marriage. It has provoked good conversations that help us to be more honest with each other-- something we both need badly. Not every single day is as powerful as the others, but so far this really gets to the heart of the marriage relationship. It's not easy to find something that will address the needs of older couples-- this does; but I am sure it will fit in well for younger marrieds and those who still have kids at home.

We are really enjoying this devotional. I like that it's not long as we do it at night and it provokes conversation about things we probably wouldn't talk about. I feel like it's helping us understand each other better and gives us a better glimpse into what each other feels.

This is a great devotional. I have an older version that my spouse and I have been using for years. I order this now to give for wedding presents. Even after years of marriage it is still good to go back and read. it is like having a live-in marriage counselor that keeps you living with Gods word and keeping a your faith to God and your Spouse strong.

Joe Varady, award winning martial artists, instructor and accomplished author, has pulled together this 203 page softback manual, “The Art and Science of Staff Fighting: A Complete Instructional Guide” to strengthen the ability of the karateka. It is a how-to handbook that covers bo staff, quarter staff, disarming techniques, and unarmed-against-a-staff.“The Art and Science of Staff Fighting” takes the learner through nine progressive levels of staff training, beginning with the fundamentals and traveling all the way to the use of a spear, because a spear “is simply a staff equipped with a power multiplier” (159). Clear pictures, directional arrows, stance and foot-placement diagrams, and explanations are all useful and lucid. At the end of six of the chapters are suggested workout regimens to help hone learned skills. There are also plans for building training equipment at home that can have uses beyond staff training. This is truly a how-to book!The explanations are meant to give the kind of logic a trainee needs to have to become expert in staff fighting. The science (specifically, physics) of using the staff is lined out in bits and pieces from chapter to chapter, and then fully explained in the first appendix penned by Chris Hall. The artfulness is quickly obvious as Varady explains the “why” and “wherefore” of each level. The detail of the material is solid, but not dense. For example, as the author is explaining the importance of targeting, he notes that there are two types of staff strikes, distraction and disablement. Also, the purpose of the strikes is either structural attacks, nerve attacks or a combination of both (25). Without wearing down the reader, Varady explains his point, illustrates it, and then moves to the next level. I really like this book. The info and techniques are laid out in a way that's easy to follow (especially if you have training/experience in any weapons based martial arts). The pictures are clear and in color, the ends of the staff are marked for clarity and the people are wearing different colors as well, making it easy to follow. If you are looking to actually fight/spar with your staff and not just do forms, I highly recommend this book.

It becomes immediately apparent when you being reading this book that it’s authored by someone who is not only proficient in staff combat, but by someone who also has the ability to convey these teachings in a concise and practical manner. There is a natural progression in this book whereby it takes the reader on a clear path starting with the fundamentals and building upon them in a logical pace. The narrative instructional portions perfectly match the finely staged illustrations. From a visual learning aspect, this book is a treasure trove as it superbly captures the step-by-step movements with a rhythm that is simple enough for learners to replicate regardless of skill level.
